One of my favorite ways to sneak in a great vacation is a weekend getaway. It doesn’t use up a lot of my vacation time, it capitalizes on the days off and it’s something to look forward to.

My best friend Sierra and I were in California for Memorial Day weekend. The travel there was a pain, as usual. Flight delays, 30-minute baggage waits and a long Lyft ride meant we didn’t get to sleep until 2:15am in California (that’s 3:15am in Colorado). So, we decided to spend the first day sleeping in and relaxing.

Our day by the pool was such a great reminder that I need to take more time to just be. Not to worry about wasting time or the next thing to do. But simply be still. I’m the type of person that likes to keep on schedule and use every minute to the fullest. I also have become accustomed to numbing the emptiness with some kind of screen. I hate to admit to this because it’s something I would never want for my children or the people around me, but it’s true. If I don’t have something going on, I feel the need to fill the void with Netflix or Instagram. During this relaxing day, I was able to pick up a book, for the first time in a while, and just enjoy the sunshine. If you get the chance, I really encourage you to do the same.

The following days were spent in one of the most magical places in the world: Disneyland! I’ll write more about my experiences and thoughts about this trip in another post. For the most part, it was a very good trip to Disney. We were able to beat the crowds and enjoy the carefree atmosphere. I love avoiding adulthood as much as possible on my trips!

We were successful in our attempt to getaway from the stress and responsibilities of life to enjoy the long weekend. I hope you all were able to do the same!
